Badalbayli Farhad Shamsi is a People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist of USSR, professor, pianist and a composer.

He was born on 12 December 1947 in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 1965-1969 Farhad Badalbayli studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (class of M.R. Brenner). In 1969-1971 he passed his post-graduate stage at Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (class of B.Davidovich).

In 1978 he became a People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, then in 1990 People’s Artist of USSR. In 1985 Farhad Badalbayli was a laureate of the Azerbaijan State Award. In 1997 received the Order of Honor of Azerbaijan, in 2000 the Order of Chevalier of Literature and Art of France, in 2015 the “Star of Commonwealth” Order and in 2017 Order of “Istiglal” Azerbaijan.

Since 1991 Farhad Badalbayli he is the rector of Baku Music Academy.

Farhad Badalbayli is winner of many famous international piano competitions such as the  B.Smetana in Czechoslovakia (1967) and Vianna Da Motta in Portugal (1968).

Also, Farhad Badalbayli is involved in active and successful concert career. The concert tours took him to many countries including as Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, France, Greece, Norway, Portugal, Tunis, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Sweden, USA, Cuba, South Korea, Japan and other countries.

He has performed with several orchestras as "Moscow Virtuosi", Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, and Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
